GOOD PRACTICE EXAMPLE

Country: Germany
Product group: Vehicles
Name of the institution: Wall AG

Summary

The Wall AG is an international specialist for city furniture and outdoor advertising in six countries and over 50 metropolises, amongst others in Berlin, Boston, Budapest, Düsseldorf, Istanbul and Sofia.
"For cities. For people." is the guiding theme of the company, which can be found all along the service portfolio of the company. Bus and train waiting halls, kiosks and city information as well as self cleaning handicapped accessible city toilets, recycling bins and orientations systems are produced in our own factory and offered to the cities for free.
The financing happens by marketing the integrated illuminated advertisement surface. Development, production, service and marketing are offered by only one provider. During their daily tour with the vehicle pool especially trained employees take care of cleaning and upkeep of the products. By the continuous modernization of the motor pool in Berlin and the conversion to natural-gas operated cars the corporation reacts to the increasing contaminant loads by road traffic in the capitol.

Measures

The complete conversion from diesel to natural-gas driven cars in Berlin will be achieved step by step. Since January 2007 the first low-emission cars are part of the motor pool. By now the Wall AG uses 7 natural-gas driven vehicles. The procurement was supported by an EU co-financed support programme.

Success

A high share of today's environmental burden is due to road traffic. Natural-gas driven vehicles show a much more positive environmental track record compared to conventional cars.
Direct comparison shows:
• Up to 80 % less pollutant emissions
• 50 % less carbon monoxide
• 80 % less reactive hydrocarbon
• 80 % less nitrogen oxide
