Procurement process
With the decision for the exchange of the traffic lights, Norderstedt accomplished an economy examination for each cross point. Thereby Norderstedt estimated an amortisation of six to ten years and a durability of 15 years. Besides the saving of CO2 emission, the city saves operation costs with no longer exchange of the conventional bulbs once a year, an installation breakdown, as well as extra insertions.
Measures
With investment cost of 656,000 Euros and an allowance of 138,000 Euros by the federal state Schleswig-Holstein, as well as a fast non-bureaucratic action, Norderstedt exchanged 49 of 101 conventional traffic lights.
Success
By now all expectations have been fulfilled and the LED-traffic light has become standard. The energy consumption has decreased by 70 to 80%, while the safety by not longer existing phantom light increases. Depending upon the dimension and consumption of the traffic light, the saving potential lies between 19 and 46 percent and Norderstedt saves 500 to 1,000 Euros operation costs per year with the abandonment of service work. Furthermore the higher the energy costs, the higher is the energy saving potential.
