Overview

The initiative “Kyoto: la lampadina che non consuma il pianeta (Kyoto: the lamp which does not consume the planet)” is promoted by Legambiente, Region Lombardia and Lifeventuno. The initiative for eco-lamps in region Lombardia started on 16 February 2005, for one year. It is estimated that with the overall initiative 400.000 lamps will be sold, corresponding to 4 million Euro (20 million Euro in 5 years, the lifetime of the lamps) and 21 million kWh or 11.000 ton CO2 saved.

Organisation of the procurement

The initiative “Kyoto: la lampadina che non consuma il pianeta” (Kyoto: the lamp which does not consume the planet) is promoted by Legambiente, region Lombardia and Lifeventuno under the patronage of the Ministry for Environment.

Measures

Citizens could purchase the lamps in shops and large retailes acittadini participating to the initiative: Ikea, Castorama, Ipercoopo, BricoIO, Esselunga, Bennet e Mediaworld, etc. with a discount of at least 3€ on the purchase price, guaranteed by the fund of Region Lombardia. The comparison between an incandescence lamp and a CFL in class A turned on for 4 hours/day gives the following results:

Success

At December 2005, 250.000 lamps were sold in region Lombardia due to the initiative, corresponding to a savings of: more than 3000 ton of oil, more than 16 million kWh, more than 8.000 ton CO2, and more than 2 million Euro on the households energy bills.
