The Berlin Energy Agency, founded in 1992 by the State of Berlin, is an enterprise in the sense of a Public-Private-Partnership.
The task of the Berlin Energy Agency is the determination and active detection of energy saving potentials in industry and commerce, service companies, housing agencies and public institutions. Thus the Energy Agency is mediator between energy policy and energy economics, and acts on the one hand as regional energy agency with main activities in Berlin, on the other hand as partner or co-ordinator in national and international projects ever since its foundation.

The Berlin Energy Agency is a consulting firm, with the principal subjects rational use of energy, promotion of combined heat and power systems, and use of renewable energies. The Berlin Energy Agency also realises model contracting projects as energy service company (ESCO) at its own risk.
