The National Technical Information Centre and Library (OMIKK) was integrated Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BUTE) on 1st July 2001, as a semi-independent unit of the university, keeping its national mission as an information collecting, processing and dissemination organisation. As a result of this reorganisation, BUTE OMIKK can also exploit both the resources and capacity of the different R&D and innovation-related results of BUTE.
BUTE will participate in the project through its EU Technology Information and Advisory Service (EU TTTSz). The predecessor of it (EU Information Unit) was launched in 1995 primarily to provide information on the research and technological development activities carried out within the EU-funded R&D Framework Programmes.
The Service has participated in several EU-funded and national projects since 1997:
It is the co-ordinator of IRC Hungary project and joined as member in the thematic groups of renewable energy and environment, which operate as expert platform in these fields within the IRC network. The members of the group assist in supporting the companies in technology transfer issues and in the promotion of their innovative environmental and energy technologies throughout Europe. It offers its clients the necessary guidance, contacts and information, and organises partnering events and company missions in order to find partners and achieve successful co-operation and make transnational agreements.
The Service was also member of the OPET network and involved in FEMOPET Hungary and OPET Hungary as co-ordinator, and in OPET Building and CHP projects as partner to raise awareness and disseminate information to different target groups on the opportunities for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
It was participated as partner in the project “clearcontract – Clearinghouse for Third Party Financing in Eastern Europe” under SAVE II, promoting the third party financing in public buildings. As a result, a new target group, the public sector, first of all the municipalities was addressed.
In the frame of the ERA ENV project and as a Liaison Office for Sustainable Development – Global changes and Ecosystems the main activities of the Service are information dissemination, training activities, active promotion of research competences on environment and energy, assistance in proposal preparation and screening of research cooperation possibilities and organisation of partnering events. These activities target all types of potential applicants, academia, research centres, universities, as well as small and medium enterprises (SME) and larger companies.
The Service also publishes newsletters (e.g. “EU Energy News”), prepares catalogues, guidelines and leaflets, and organises countrywide information days and workshops in several topics like energy (RUE, RES), environment etc. It also participates in and provides speakers to events organised by others.
