Establishment: The Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect is a non-profit NGO, established in 1992 in Sofia to support the efforts of Bulgarian central and local authorities to attain sustainable development by energy efficiency improvement.
Objectives: To contribute to the implementation of energy efficiency policy at all management levels in Bulgaria for achievement of sustainable development and climate change mitigation; to assist the process of institutional development and capacity building in Bulgaria as a prerequisite for the initiation, development and implementation of energy efficiency programs and projects; to assist the development of a local market and promote local manufactures of energy-saving materials, products and services; to assist technology transfer and exchange of experience and information on energy efficiency.
Main priorities: Overcoming the barriers to energy efficiency in Bulgarian municipalities and introduction of incentives for energy savings; development and management of demonstration and investment projects; elaboration of municipal energy efficiency programs; education and training; dissemination of information.
Major partners: Governmental institutions, local authorities, research and educational centres, companies and NGOs in Bulgaria; Global Environment Facility, UNDP, UN ECE, USAID, European Commission, Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe; consultancy companies, institutions and NGOs from Europe and the USA.
