The environmental protection and the preservation of the creation has been a request of HiPP since 40 years. What began with the cultivation of organic vegetable can be found since that time in all scopes of the company and was fixed by an environmental management. Today, HiPP is the greatest fabricator of organic-biological raw materials. The environmental directives applicable in the enterprise since 1995 exceed the legal requirements. HiPP receives 96% of the demanded power, heat and fuel from renewable energy sources.
Procurement process
Different divisions of the location Pfaffenhofen purchase centralised for all locations in Germany and Austria. The division purchasing, procures raw materials, whereas the technical-team is responsible for the procurement of power and the DP-division for office devices. The management introduced environmental directives in 1995 to provide the basis for environmental friendly procurement. Indeed, neither in these environmental instructions nor in the central procurement directives, environmental relevant procurement criteria are arranged, but these are meanwhile coordinated in the procuring division as well as in the environmental division. In practice non-conflict coordination processes refer to a strong anchorage of these environmental guidelines.
Measures
The compliance of the criteria of the Blauer Engel establishes a binding condition for the procurement of office devices like PCs, monitors, printers, copier and fax machines. The tender for green power is based on the criteria of the Grünen-Strom-Label (gold – green electricity label in gold).
Success
Hipp saves every year about 15,000 kWh of power with the procurement of environmental friendly office devices. At an electricity tariff of 0.13 €/kWh, cost savings of 4,000 € per year are achieved. Half of the energy savings is achieved by the decision for TFT monitors.
With the use of 100 % green power HiPP reduces the CO2 emission by about 3,200 tons. Purchasing power from naturenergie could be renewed in March 2006 for another two years.
