Procurement process

The procurement of materials for the production as well as green electricity is organized centrally, whereas office equipment as monitors, printers and fax machines is peripherally purchased. An intern and binding guideline is defining criteria for environment protection in the company. Environmental aims and measures are published in the annual environmental report (http://www.lebensbaum.de/downloads/umwelterklaerung2005.pdf ).

Measures

An internal guideline defines the labels Energy Star and TCO as criteria for the procurement of monitors, printers and fax machines. For the Ulrich Walter GmbH, environment protection not only means the reduction of resource consumption but also the usage of renewable energies. 75% of the total energy consumption is therefore covered by green electricity- certified by the label TÜV EE01.

Success

On the basis of the using green electricity alone (270.000 kWh/year), the Ulrich Walter GmbH saves 18 tons CO2 anually.

  • Use of natural and renewable raw materials for the buildings
  • Use of hybrid vehicles (natural gas-petrol motor technology)
  • Ecological friendly arrangement of the factory premises
