Motiva
was established in May 1993 by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI)
as an Information Centre for Energy Efficiency. In 1996 Motiva’s
activities were extended, by including the promotion of renewable
energy sources in the responsibilities. As of December 2000 Motiva Oy
is an impartial and state-owned joint stock company.
International climate agreements, National Climate Strategy, Energy Conservation Programme and Action Plan for Renewable Energy Sources are behind Motiva’s operations. The objective of Motiva’s operations is to improve energy-efficiency and promote the use of renewable energy sources through tools adopted on a voluntary basis. The core task of Motiva is to produce, refine and disseminate information as well as to boost the introduction of advanced energy-saving technologies.
Motiva’s forms of activity:
- Preparation, support and follow-up of energy conservation agreements.
- Development and marketing of energy audits and analyses, as well as other methods of energy saving.
- Speeding up introduction of advanced technology.
- Influencing energy saving attitudes and energy consumption behaviour.
- Project management services.
One of Motiva’s main activities has been to develop and disseminate measures to enhance energy efficiency in the various sectors. Motiva has successfully initiated and participated in national and international procurement competitions to speed up the market uptake of advanced technology.
Motiva has initiated and participated in several versatile national and international projects. Motiva has comprehensive experience in operating as a co-ordinator and partner in EU financed projects. Motiva acts as a national EIE contact point.
Motiva has a highly educated staff of 29 people, most of them having experience in both energy technologies and information dissemination activities.
